Fehler beim verbinden auf Console „unable to connect to the MKS: internal error.“

Es kann passieren, dass man die Console einer VM nicht öffnen kann, stattdessen erhält man die Meldung „unable to connect to the MKS: internal error“ Grund dafür könnte eine volle RA-Disk sein. Man kann dies folgenderweise testen: vdf -h —– Ramdisk Size Used Available Use% Mounted on root 32M 2M 29M 6% — etc 28M 344K 27M 1% — tmp 192M 8K 191M 0% — hostdstats 553M 5M 547M 1% — Falls 99% oder 100% belegt ist, ist fast sicher dies der Grund, das man die Console nicht öffnen kann, oder daß VMotion nicht funktioniert. mit du -h -d 1 / kann man dann auf die Suche gehen, wahrscheinlich sind die logs voll...

OEM-OS in einer VM auf ESX(i) installieren

Beim installieren des Betriebssystems in einer VM kann es bei OEM-Versionen zu Problemem führen, z.B. beim installieren von MS W2K8R2 mit der HP-OEM-DVD auf einen HP-Server (ESX) erscheint die Meldung: Hardware not supported oder so ähnlich. Abhilfe: bei Win-Versionen vor Server 2008 R2 muss man in der *.vmx-Datei folgenden Eintrag hinzufügen: SMBIOS.reflectHost = „TRUE“ Systeme ab Server 2008R2 SMBIOS.reflectHost = „TRUE“ SMBIOS.noOEMStrings = „TRUE“ Alternativ kann auch folgender Eintrag verwendet werden: smbios.addHostVendor = „TRUE“

ESXi5.0 „Logs are stored on non-persistent storage“

Nach einem Upgrade von ESX4.1 auf ESXi5.0 erschien am Anmeldebildschirm folgende Meldung: Logs are stored on non-persistent storage. Consult product documentation to configure log server or a scratch partition Abhilfe: Im vClient, beim Host, unter Erweiterte Einstellungen/Syslog folgendes eintragen: Syslog.global.logDir: [] /scratch/log ich habe unteranderem den VMware Syslog Collector installiert, um diesen zu konfigurieren, folgendes eintragen: Syslog.global.logHost: udp://[servername]:514 danach verschwand bei mir die Fehlermeldung.

Enable SSH on ESXi 4.1 (U1)

Bei Version 4.1 U1 muss man folgenderweise die Console und evtl. ssh freischalten: 1) an der Konsole F2 drücken um das System zu konfigurieren 2) als root anmelden 3) zum Punkt „Troubleshooting Options“ navigieren 4) danach kann man die locale Konsole durch „Enable Local Tech Support“ aktivieren 4) ebenfalls kann man hier auch den SSH-Zugriff aktivieren („Enable Remote Tech Support (SSH)“) siehe VMware-KB getestet mit ESX4.1 U1 (Build 348481)
